Search is on for a star

-

THE SEARCH is on in both Kiskeam and Ballydesmond for a star, who will be able to belt out the ditties.

This new competition will kick off on Friday night at Ballydesmond Community Centre and will continue for the next four weeks. The fundraiser is in aid of both Kiskeam and Ballydesmond national schools.

The criteria for 'Search for a Star,' will attract all singers from secondary schools as well as all forms of genre singing, be it pop to rock, folk to ballads. The winner will receive a 12 track album recorded CD at Music Row Studios by Leo and Noreen Fitzgerald.

There will also be live bands playing each night after the contestants have finished and there is also a full bar, as well as raffles.

On the final night on June 13, ‘ The Wanted Man,' who was the winner of last years search for a country star will attend and will perform.

“As Leo and I are parents of a child attending Kiskeam NS, we both know how difficult it is for schools to raise funds. With this in mind, we then approached both Kiskeam and Ballydesmond with the idea for this fundraiser,” Noreen Fitzgearld said.

She explained that 'Reach for a Star,' was also held in 2008 for the North Cork Multiple Sclerosis and €14,000 was raised. The winning act in 2008 was ‘ The Fitzy Chicks,' from Brosna, who then went on the final of the RTE All Ireland Talent Show.
