CLYDA ROVERS GAA CLUB

JUNIOR A FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP: The Clyda Junior Football Team enjoyed a hard fought team win over Fermoy in the Fermoy Credit Union Junior A Championship on Friday 16th May. Hoping to build on their win in the JB 2 championship in 2013, they approached the game in a positive frame of mind. Fermoy opened the scoring with a point, but Declan Roche responded with an early score from play. Fermoy then claimed an early goal and enjoyed the advantage for most of the opening half. But this Clyda team stuck to the task and kept in touch all the way. Chris O Connell, Sean Ronayne and Kyle Crowley were providing with a decent platform at midfield and with Roy Willis raiding from centre back, Clyda were playing very much on the front foot. At the break Clyda trailed their opponents by just a goal. Clyda had the deficit down to just a single point when Fermoy struck for an early second half goal. But this Clyda team is made of the right stuff and they soon had the minimum between the sides again. Pa Forde was running himself to a standstill at wing back and Colin Ronayne and Declan Roche were proving a handful up front. The game was entering its final minutes when Colin Ronayne struck for the goal that brought the teams level. But Fermoy were proving worthy favourites and they took the lead again.

Time was running out when a Kyle Crowley point brought the sides level once again. From the kick out Chris O Connell made a great catch and he off loaded to Crowley who took the ball deep into Fermoy territory. Crowley slipped a pass inside to Tadhg O Connor who in turn found Roy Willis in support. It was fitting that Roy had his 6th point of the night and for the first time Clyda were in front . There was time for one last attack from Fermoy, but Clyda held firm and on the final whistle they were one point to the good on a scoreline of 1-16 to 3-9. So it's onto the next round and the dream is still alive. TEAM: Conor O Donoghue, Cathal Greene, Robert Walsh, Pa Forde, Tadhg O Callaghan, Roy Willis, William Cronin, Chris O Connell, Sean Ronayne, Colin Ronayne, Donal O Mullane, Ronan Flanagan, Kyle Crowley, Declan Roche, Michael Linehan. SUBS USED: Diarmuid Ronayne, Donal Stack, Mike Forde, Tadhg O Connor.
