Events to look forward to
The World Feeder Fishing Championship on the River Lee will take place this July in Coachford on July 19th and 20th with 25 International Teams attending, and Latvian and American teams taking part for the first time.
The brand new 2.8KM Walkway is also almost completed.
Meanwhile the local Heritage Committee is extremely active and plans are afoot for a Visual & Audio Exhibition on the River Lee Hydro-Electric Project at Coachford Community House in July, which will co-inside with the World Feeder Fishing Championships.
Heritage Week will take place in August with events yet to be finalised, and the Committee will host the Magourney Famine Commemoration Evening in September with a programme which will include the unveiling of a Memorial, Play re-enactment, and a Talk/Slideshow Presentation on Magourney (Coachford) and the Great Famine.
Further ongoing events over the year include submission of local items for pending Cork County Book on Historic Homes, Surveying at Kilcolman & Aghabullogue Graveyards and a Technology project to promote sites/items within the Parish.
In Rylane, plans are afoot for the centenary celebrations at the local
St. Olan's church, Rylane. National School which will take place over the June Bank Holiday weekend. All past pupils are invited to attend on Friday, May 30th, Sat 31st, and Sun. June 1st. Readers can check out the school Website at www.rylanens.ie for a full list of activities.
