Shoestring planning two plays

-

FOLLOWING the huge success of their production of John B. Keane’s ‘ Sharon’s Grave’, Charleville’s Shoestring Theatre Company are now planning to stage two further productions this year, the American drama ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest’ by Ken Kesey and ’ Trad’, a new play by Mark Doherty.

It will be recalled that ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest’ was the first play staged in the new Schoolyard theatre when it opened in 1993 and the director, Kevin O’Shea, felt it was timely to repeat this excellent play to mark the 21st year of the theatre being open.

“We have had some great nights at the Schoolyard over the past 21 years and very many memorable moments of wonderful theatre with tremendous performances from the members of the Shoestring Theatre Company and we would hope to continue into the future,” he said.

Of ‘ Trad’ he said that this production will pose big challenges for the Shoestring but he felt that with the calibre of actor they have they will be well able to overcome these. “This is an excellent and unusual play and we are greatly looking forward to staging it probably in November,” said Kevin.

“The Shoestring will also be returning to the festival circuit and this will be our play for 2015,” he said.

Mr. O’Shea also invited anybody who is interested in the theatre to join the Shoestring group. “We always have room for aspiring young actors and actresses, those interested in stage management or for those who may just want to be involved there are always positions at front of house” he added.

If there is anybody interested they can come along to the theatre on the night of any production or contact Kevin on 087-1804870 or Mike at 087-2530955.
