Defeat for junior footballers in Castletownroche

-

THE Fermoy second team travelled to Castletownroche on last Friday night where they met Clyda Rover's second string in the opening round of the North Cork JFC.

This turned out to have been one of the best contests that you are likely to witness in this or any other c/ship game this year. It had everything, good football, great scores by both sides, especially the winning point from Clyda in the dying moments, and great sportsmanship all round which made the job of Referee Justin Murphy an easy one,

Fermoy led for 59 minutes of the game thanks to some well taken scores from Jas Campion and Donal Galvin. The introduction of minor players Mark McGurr, Cian O'Carroll and late on Ronan O'Hagan almost helped to bring about victory but in fairness to Clyda they never gave up and few can begrudge them their thrilling victory after the way they achieved it.

Fermoy must now face Glanworth's second string in round Two for the right to enter the draw again for the Third Round later on. SEASON'S END FOR SOCCER TEAMS

The Season has been brought to a close for both the Fermoy Soccer teams in their respective Munster Senior and junior leagues and cups competitions.

While both teams suffered relegation from their respective premier sections in 2013, they both finished in a pretty healthy mid table positions this year.

The senior side lost their last game away to Mayfield United, but still a fairly satisfactory year for the management team of Trevor Slattery, John-Paul Cotter and Pa Boyce,

The junior team, who had been threatened with relegation, recovered well in their final games, especially in their last game away to College Corinthians whom they defeated 0-5 to seal their place in Division One again next season. Again, well done to all the players and the junior management team of Tony Egan, Jim Corcoran and Mossy Fox,

The club wishes to thank all who supported their recent fund raising race night held at the Wagon Tavern. RUGBY NEWS

Popular club competition sec Kevin Doyle won the George O'Keefe Memorial Cup at Fermoy on Sunday last.

Kevin won this well supported competition, which was a one card only event, from Dave Daly (a one time playing colleague of the late George) with the consistent John Cahill winning the best Gross prize.

Once again Jean Clancy excelled by winning the ladies section for the second week running.

Some club members attended at the St Stephen's Club in Glanmire where Declan Freeman and Justin McCarthy were successful in the St Stephen's Scratch Cup as was Eleanor Walsh playing in the Ladies Scratch Cup. Congrats to each of them.
