NORTH CORK JBFC

QUARTER-FINAL Mitchelstown 3-14 Liscarroll 1-7 TWO goals as the final whistle approached by Paul Hennessy helped Mitchelstown see off the challenge from a gallant Liscarroll side in the Walsh's Bar (Mitchelstown) JBFC quarter-final at Castletownroche on Wednesday evening.

The opening stages saw Mitchelstown with a good blend of youth and experience start in a very positive manner and at the end of the first quarter they moved into a 0-7 to 0-2 lead when Peter Conroy (4) Padraigh Donegan (2) and Liam Allen kicked over some fine points. Liscarroll who missed two goal scoring chances during the opening exchanges quickly settled with Patrick Barrett getting their revival in motion with a point in the 18th minute.

Mitchelstown responded through James Gubbins but two more two points by Liscarroll from the Buckley brothers Neil and John left the game firmly in the balance at the interval when just three points separated the teams 0-8 to 0-5.

On the changeover Mitchelstown were again quick off the mark with Robert Hanna and Padraigh Donegan with early points extending their lead. However Liscarroll continued to plug away with Tadgh Murphy, John Maher, Sean Egan, John Buckley and James Kelly making inroads, In the 39th minute they thundered their way back into the tie when David Collins was brought down in the square and a penalty awarded that John Buckley finishing to the net to trail 0-10 to 1-5.

Just when Liscarroll seemed right back in the game they conceded a penalty three minutes later when Peter Conroy was upended in the square with Padraigh Donegan making no mistake from the spot kick as 'Town moved into a 1-11 to 1-5 lead. Exchanges were very close over the next 15 minutes with Damian O'Brien, Neil Buckley, Peter Conroy and Padraigh Donegan trading points before two well taken goals in the last three minutes by Paul Hennessy helped Mitchelstown finally turn the tie in their favour.
