PLAYER RATINGS
Anthony Nash
Had no chance with the Waterford goal, and wasn't seriously tested otherwise.
Stephen McDonnell
Wasn't without his problems against Colin Dunford in the first half, but he still managed to keep him scoreless. Heroic in the second half.
Damien Cahalane
Conceded a point to four different opponents, but performed up to scratch for the most part, particularly in the second half.
Shane O'Neill
Found Billy O'Sullivan quite a handful, he gradually found his feet after the interval, making a brilliant interception to prevent O'Sullivan from engineering a match-winning goal near the end.
Chris Joyce
Turned in a competent display before the break, he grew in stature in the second half, and can feel well satisfied with his contribution overall.
Mark Ellis
Wasn't especially commanding at centre-back in the first half, he performed with far greater assurance during the last 35 minutes. Supplied an accurate delivery that yielded a point from Alan Cadogan shortly after the restart, he did enough on his championship debut to raise hopes he might be the answer in what has been a problem position for quite some time now.
Lorcan McLoughlin
Rarely put a foot astray over the 70 minutes, his deliveries from the back were always well directed, with Alan Cadogan benefiting from that more than once in the first half
Daniel Kearney
Never got into the game, he is clearly struggling to recapture the form that made him a leading contender for an All-Star award in 2013 before he endured an equally bad day at the office in the All-Ireland final replay against Clare.
Aidan Walsh
Looked a bit raw at times, but it was largely a very positive showing from the Cork football star, highlighted by an inspirational point after he had made a spectacular catch in the second half. Provided ample evidence in his first big test with the hurlers to suggest he has what it takes to cut the mustard at the top level in the small ball code.
Cian McCarthy
Tried hard, but was outplayed by excellent Waterford wing back Tadgh Burke before being replaced at half-time.
Patrick Cronin
Nothing went right for the Cork captain and it has to go down as his least productive display ever in the red jersey.
Conor Lehane
Another who performed well below expectations, his input was spasmodic to say the least. Scored a tasty point early in the second half, but was off-target with a couple of decent chances after that.
Alan Cadogan
Couldn't have done more on his championship debut, he nailed four delightful points, and was the chief architect of several other scores. It was no surprise that his marker Barry Coughlan was called ashore in the 42nd minute, and Shane Fives likewise suffered at the hands of the Douglas star.
Seamus Harnedy
Scored a superb point, and his block on an attempted clearance led to the opening for another from Alan Cadogan in the first half when he was forced to exist on scraps at fullforward. Got little change from Waterford's Liam Lawlor in the second half though
Patrick Horgan
Was well shackled by Noel Connors in the first half, but was hugely influential following a switch to wing forward after the interval. Missed one free from distance, but was unerring from placed balls otherwise, chipping in with three exquisite scores from play as well.
Subs Bill Cooper
Made a big difference following his introduction on the '40 in the second half, grabbing 11 to embellish a highly industrious display, and creating a goal chance for Alan Cadogan, which the Waterford 'keeper saved at the expense of a converted '65 by Patrick Horgan
Brian Lawton
Put himself about a bit at midfield after replacing Daniel Kearney for the last 20 minutes, helping to abort a couple of promising Waterford attacks in the process.
Stephen Moylan
Placed Alan Cadogan for a point and showed a good appetite for work during his late cameo.
Jamie Coughlan
Wasn't on long enough to make a major impact, although he did provide a precision cross that yielded a point from Bill Cooper.
