Neven is Lyre parents’ recipe for success
THE community of Lyre village and parish came out in force to support their local national school’s fund raising cookery event at the Charleville Park Hotel on last Thursday night.
Popular celebrity chef Neven Maguire, who runs the McNean House Restaurant in Blacklion, Co. Cavan, cooked up a storm for his avid four hundred strong audience, which mainly came from the catchment area of Lyre near Banteer.
The event was organised by the parent’s association of the 80 odd pupil, four-teacher school, which is known as Scoil Fhursa, to raise funds for the acquisition of IT equipment such as graded readers and an outdoor classroom.
The members of the association put in an enormous amount of work into selling the tickets for the cookery event since before last Christmas, and their hard work paid off handsomely with the attendance they attracted to this top class event.
The organising committee consisted of Marcella O’Connell, Orla O’Shea, Vikki O’Reilly, Nora O’Riordan, Grace Shevlin, who are members of the parents association and they were enthusiastically joined by the school’s principal Noreen Duggan.
Not alone did they sell the tickets for the event, they also attracted a number of stand holders, who were displaying products related to food, fashion, glamour and make-up as well as life insurance products in the spacious annexe to the function room at the Charleville Park Hotel.
