TWO SPRINGSTEEN TICKETS UP FOR GRABS AS LONDIS STAFF GEAR UP TO ‘JUMP FOR JOY’
FINAL preparations are underway for the biggest ever annual Pieta House ‘Darkness Into Light’ fundraiser which will take place as day breaks on Saturday, May 7.
‘Darkness into Light’ has become a global phenomenon, with more than 100,000 people set to walk or run a 5km route at more than 100 venues across the world.
This year individual events will be held at nine locations in Cork, including Mitchelstown, Mallow and Inchigeela, with ex-pats also helping to organise walks in the UK, US, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East.
Established in 2009 the ‘Darkness into Light’ initiative has helped raise vital funds for Pieta House, the national centre for the prevention of self-harm or suicide.
Last year, for example, more than 100,000 people took part in walks at 80 different locations – raising an astounding €200,000 for the charity in the process.
Held in association with Electric Ireland, Darkness into Light will commence at 4.15am, with people encouraged to walk or run a 5km route. The dawn start signifies hope and symbolises the work done by Pieta House.
This year will be the first time that an event has been held in Mitchelstown, with the start/finish line at the local leisure centre with the start/finish line for the Inchigeela leg at the Iveleary GAA Grounds.
As with last year the Mallow walk/ run will start and finish at the Mallow College of Further Education.

Having helped raise more than €20,000 for Pieta House over the past two-years through a series of sponsored walks, John Roche of Londis in Doneraile is once again set to pull out all the stops for the charity.
“This year we are getting a bit more adventurous, enlisting the help of fellow retailers and head office staff to take part in a sponsored parachute jump on Saturday, May 14,” said John.
‘Jump for Joy’, recently launched by Irish soccer legend Paul McGrath, will see 32 brave souls descend from on high in a bid to raise €15,000 for Pieta House.
To help with the fundraiser John and the team in Doneraile are also raffling off two premium tickets for Bruce Springsteen’s Croke Park concert on Friday, May 27 worth a cool €275.
“For a €100 donation your name will be entered into the raffle for this fabulous prize and your money will go directly to Pieta House,” said John.
