KILBRIN marks the centenary of the 1916 Rising with a Commemoration at the Village Cross on Friday, May 6 at 7.30pm at the Cross in the village.

Spokesperson Tom O’Riordan outlines the hosting plans to acknowledge the contribution of the village to the Rising.

“We will be unveiling a special commemorative stone to celebrate this event. Kilbrin National school will also be participating on this historic occasion, reading the proclamation and also a new proclamation made up by the children of the school”, he said.

A history of events relating to Kilbrin of 1916 will be spoken about as well as the R.I.C barrack in the village, the home now of the Kearney family. Additionally, a list of local men, officers and soldiers that were enrolled in the Irish Volunteer Force will be on display in a scroll.

“The occasion will be very historic for Kilbrin and one not to be missed for the people of the parish and surrounding areas on this centenary occasion”, said Tom.
