Healthy lifestyle on the agenda at McEgan College

- with John Delea jdelea@corkman.ie

MCEGAN College’s annual Health Week kicked off this week and is an innovative response to the growing concerns surrounding childhood obesity in Ireland.

The project will focus on the promotion of a healthy lifestyle through healthy eating and exercise.

Over the week various speakers from organisations such as Rena Buckley Physiotherapy, Dan Sweeney Personal Training and Youth Health Services will meet with students to offer advice and to highlight the benefits of a healthy life style to their long term health and well-being.

A variety of activities such as a GAA blitz, aerobics, mindfulness, pre-school and after school exercise classes, Zumba and penalty shoot outs will also be organised and staff and students of McEgan will be encouraged to get involved. All students and some staff will take part in a 5k park run.

There will also be prizes for healthy lunches and talks from nutritionists throughout the week.

Research has linked factors such as a balanced diet, eating breakfast and fresh air and exercise to academic performance and through dynamic initiatives such as Health Week McEgan College strives to ensure that students meet their academic potential while living healthy and happy lives.

Here’s hoping that McEgan College Health Week 2016 is the best one yet! “Enjoy your Health”.
