Frank Healy – a lifetime of service to Kanturk GAA

-

THE death of Frank Healy (Snr) on Saturday, April 16 was greeted with much sadness in Kanturk GAA circles and the wider community.

Without fear of contradiction, Frank Healy gave a lifetime of service to Kanturk GAA as a player in the late 1940’s and as selector, committee member and officer over many years.

Having served as vice chairman from 1960 to 1968, Frank acceded to Chairman of Kanturk GAA in 1969 for one year before taking over as Cathaoirleach of Duhallow GAA board in 1970 for three years before being appointed the first President of Coiste Du Ealla in 1974, a post he held up to the time of his death.

Frank served as selector of Kanturk Intermediate football team in the mid 1960’s and was Kanturk delegate to the Cork GAA board from 1965 to 1969.

He was also a selector on the Kanturk Junior hurling team from 1964 to1969 during which time five Duhallow championships were won, culminating with the Cork Junior Hurling county championship in 1969, the year that Frank also chaired the club.

Despite serving at Duhallow GAA board level, Frank never forgot his roots and continued his involvement with Kanturk GAA at committee level before taking over as Chairman in 1981 and furthered the developments at the club grounds such as the terracing and dressing rooms were developed.

Frank was appointed President of Kanturk GAA in the mid 2000’s and remained in that position up to his untimely death.

Sympathy of all in Kanturk GAA is extended to the Healy family on their sad loss. Ar deis De go raibh a anam.
