Great second half sees Clyda footballer­s take points over Douglas

Douglas key player Alan Cadogan being denied by the crossbar. Cian O’Sullivan and Liam Dineen exchanged a point.

Douglas moved Alan Cadogan to the full forward line and he posed a major threat to the Clyda defence during the first half. James Murphy with a free opened up a lead for Clyda 0-3 to 0-1. Cadogan made a great run from the wing and was brought down in the area. Ray Keating had his penalty excellentl­y saved by Elliot Sheehan but the same player got the rebound and goaled. Douglas enjoyed their best patch in this period. Good play by Alan Cadogan led to an Eoin Cotter point. Aaron Ward followed with another moving the City side 1-3 to 0-3 clear. Alan Cadogan followed up with a punched point in the 23rd minute. Clyda battled to the end, a foul on Conor Flanagan led to a James Murphy pointed free. In the closing moments Alan Cadogan with another great point gave the home side an interval lead 1-5 to 0-4.

Clyda Rovers hit a purple patch in the second half. They gained supremacy in the half backline and their midfielder­s well supported ensured plenty of supply up front. It was an unique second half performanc­e by the Avondhu side who scored 0-15 in this period.

Cian O’Sullivan was in devastatin­g form at centre forward. Goal keeper Elliot Sheehan was also in great form as they dominated. Douglas added a further 1-5 to their half time tally. Their goal came in the 48th minute when Aaron Ward and Damian McSweeney worked well for Liam Dineen who soloed through and kicked an unstoppabl­e effort to the net that put them in front 2-7 to 0-12. Clyda recovered very well and seven points in the last 11 minutes by Cian O’Sullivan (2) Daniel O’Callaghan, Niall O’Mullane, Conor Flanagan, Sean O’Connell and James Murphy helped the Mourneabbe­y side to their first victory in this league.
