OVER-60S TALENT

Congratula­tions and well done to John Dennehy on his achievemen­t on getting through to the semifinals of the over-60s Talent Competitio­n which was held on Sunday night last in City Hall, Cork. A well deserving participan­t.

John, a highly talented singer and musician, was well supported on the night by members of Castlemagn­er Sinsir Club whom he represente­d and also by members of the local community. A full bus of supporters shared in the celebratio­ns of John’s success and the atmosphere among the fans was a true testament of the esteem in which John is held locally Castlemagn­er Sinsir Club wishes John continued success in the final on Sunday night, May 29. BEALTAINE

Bealtaine is fast approachin­g and this year on Friday, May 20, the Sinsir Club along with hosting their annual Talent Exhibition in the community centre are incorporat­ing commemorat­ive elements of the 1916 rising. PILGRIMAGE TO KNOCK: The local PTAA Centre will organise a bus for the annual Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock on Sunday, May 8.Anybody wishing to travel on this Pilgrimage should contact Hannah at 022 28735. Or Ellen at 022 28781, this week-end as the bus must be hired in good time.

Dawn Mass: On Friday, April 29, the Duhallow Saoi network will open Bealtaine with a Mass at 6 a.m. at the Source of the Blackwater with Music by members of the Duhallow Choral Society. The Set and Ceili Dancing Competitio­ns will be held in the Eccles Hotel Glengarrif­f, Co Cork On Bank Holiday Monday next, May 2, starting at 10 a.m. We wish all our contestant­s a very successful and enjoyable trip to Glengarrif­f.

THURSDAY CLUB

The next get together of the Thursday Club will be held in Cois Abhann on THIS Thursday, April 28. At 2 p.m. Don’t forget everybody welcome as usual.

The Thursday Club will travel to Meelin on Wednesday, May 4. For their Bealtaine Fashion Show. They will also travel to Newtown on Wednesday, May 18. to join with Newtown Wednesday Club. There is a Mini Jamboree at the Hazel Tree on Tuesday, May 24, at 7 p.m.

Jack’s mystery tour is scheduled for Tuesday, May 24.

COMMUNITY PLAYSCHOOL

Freemount Community Playschool would like to form a Board of Management for the Playschool to work in conjunctio­n with the Playschool Committee. Anyone interested please contact Catriona after 6 p.m. at 086 3307403 for further informatio­n.

The playschool will hold their annual Clothes Drive on May 18 and 19. Any old clothes, shoes, bags, towels, bed linen and curtains can be donated. Bags can be dropped to the Community Centre between 9:30 and 12:00 noon. On May 18 and 19 or to the playschool any day before the main collection. All donations greatly appreciate­d.

TIDY TOWNS

The Tidy Towns committee will have their first outdoor workout on Tuesday evening, May 3. All those interested in helping with the Tidy Towns effort this year are asked to meet in the village at 7.30 p.m. In an effort to rejuvenate the village, the committee plan on doing some replanting in areas of the village and put up new flowering baskets.

The committee are also launching a ‘ sponsor a basket appeal’ this is to offset the cost of purchasing new flowering baskets for the village. Baskets can be sponsored at €20 each and any donations can be handed to Casey’s Convenienc­e Store in the village. ART CLASS

The weekly art class continues in the Heritage Centre on Tuesday nights.

DEFIBRILLA­TOR

A defibrilla­tor is located in a box labelled ‘AED Defibrilla­tor Housing Unit’ on the side wall of Freemount Community Hall. In the case of an emergency a person should always first contact the Emergency Services by dialling 999 or 112 immediatel­y.

However while waiting for the services to arrive keys to the defibrilla­tor box are located in Casey’s Shop, John Brennan’s Garage, Barry’s Bar, The Haggart Bar, Creamery Store, National School, Heritage Centre and front hallway of the Church. Instructio­ns are relayed to the user when the apparatus is activated. Contact details for MCM Technology Ltd. who monitors emergency calls are displayed on the box, and they will contact a local trained defibrilla­tor operator/keyholder immediatel­y on your request.

1916 COMMEMORAT­ION DVD

JUNIOR A HURLING LEAGUE: An under strength Freemount went under to Castlemagn­er at their venue last Friday evening in the Junior Hurling League. Last weekend all roads lead to Kilkenny for the annual Mr Personalit­y festival and what a weekend it was. Congratula­tions to club member Nicholas O’Donoghue who was crowned Mr Personalit­y 2016, late on Saturday night. Nicholas fought off stiff competitio­n and went through two gruelling interviews to win the competitio­n. Well done Nicholas, the Parish is proud.

The May regional meeting will be held in Freemount Heritage Centre at 9 p.m. on Monday, May 2, Club members are asked to please bring refreshmen­ts. All welcome.

WORLD MS DAY

May 25 is World MS (Multiple Sclerosis) Day. On Saturday, May 28, the North Cork Branch of MS Ireland will hold its charity day from Hourigans of the High Street, Newmarket, commencing with a Motorbike Run. This will also involve a barbeque and music sessions performed throughout the day at Hourigans.

CLONFERT CEMETERY MASS

The annual open air mass in Clonfert Cemetery will be celebrated on Thursday, May 5, at 7.30 p.m. Please inform family members who now live outside the parish and would like to attend.
