The Corkman

Sheehan leaves a legacy

-

THIS week Mallow’s GAA Chairman hangs up his position for the second time. Paddy Sheehan was yet again at the microphone for the Munster Intermediate Hurling Final, like he has been on many occasions and like he will be for many into the future however this Thursday Paddy will hand the reigns of one of the biggest clubs in the county over to another dedicated Mallow GAA man, Mick Carroll.

Sheehan’s dedication to the club he loves can be seen easily when one considers he was also at the helm 40 years ago.

“I gave it three years this time and I really enjoyed it. I am good at delegation and that is important in a job like this. It is the right time for me to hand over the chairman’s reigns to somebody else as it is important for different people with different ideas to take things on. The club is in good hands and I am hoping to stay involved.

“Mallow is blessed with a great club with huge numbers of kids and that is really what it is all about. Having the complex here in Carrigoon is wonderful for the members of the club and also for the people of Mallow. The facilities here are used by lots of people in Mallow and by teams from all over the county and as always, all are welcome.

“We are delighted to have been given so many Munster Club Finals this year and we will do the very best we can to make sure that they all run off without a hitch. We are in a great location here at the cross roads of Munster but having said that we do everything we can to make this an enjoyable place to come for teams and fans alike.”

2017 will see a new man at the helm of this great club however it is unlikely that the change in personnel will do anything to dent what is fast becoming the go to venue in Ireland’s largest county.
