MEET SANTA AT THE KANTURK CHRISTMAS FAIR ON SATURDAY & SUNDAY, DECEMBER 10/11

-

is in full swing. Kanturk Town is immersed in festive fever with seasonal window displays, familiar Christmas carols and streets draped in the finest of Christmas lights.

A great thanks has to go out to all the volunteers that give freely of their time services and equipment that make all this possible. Here’s a brief word from the Christmas Lights Committee:

“The Christmas Lights Committee is a small group of volunteers. None are paid! The principals are electricians Michael O’Riordan, Ned McCarthy and Jerry Hickey along with Vincent Higgins and local builder Tim Cremin.

“John Bradley crafted a number of the older Christmas lights but a near €70,000 purchase of new lights three years ago set the town apart in standards with Michael Twohig at the helm. This was largely funded by The LEADER programme administered by IRD Duhallow and supported generously by a small number of local businesses and individuals.

“The Chamber of Commerce give generously on an annual basis to support the ongoing costs. The Community Council have also been a great support.

“Many other committee members give of their time. Tim Burke and Pádraig Breen were always at hand with their trucks while Andrew Kenneally never missed a Christmas lights campaign. Vincent Meade, Michael Breen and Con O’Keeffe (Chairman) make up the rest of the committee”.

A very important part of the festive season here in Kanturk is the Christmas Market. This truly completes the festive feeling with all you would expect, carol singing, arts and crafts, food, beverages, treats for the kids and of course not forgetting the man himself Santa Claus. The Market is on Saturday 10th December from 2pm-6pm in the council car park at the rear of Supervalu.

Santa Claus will be in the council car park on both the 10th and 11th of December from 11am-5pm.

On behalf of the Chamber of Commerce, I would sincerely like to thank all those who support the businesses of Kanturk for their custom through out the year and wish them a very Happy Christmas and a very prosperous New Year.
