The Corkman

Honoured tradition offering great value

-

KANTURK which is nestled in the barony of Duhallow has always been a trading town and one where family businesses tend to be handed down from generation to generation. With every good trading town comes footfall and that is true of Kanturk. Mart day, for example, brings the farming community from throughout Duhallow into the town. This in turn means that the various shops, be it supermarkets, hairdressers, clothes shops, book shops to shoe shops all benefit.

The Kanturk Chamber of Commerce have always played a pro-active role in the town and when they run their campaign ‘ try town first’ it hits a chord with the people of Duhallow, who are well aware that in these economic times, the mantra every penny counts is true to form.

There has been a number of entrepreneurial drives by people in the town with many who are rolling up their sleeves and starting their own business and using their skills in past employment to good use.

The business community in Kanturk are keen to award their customers by offering discounts and going that extra mile to make sure they will get the repeat business.

In reality, as the ethos now is to support local businesses, which in turn wraps a protective blanket around local jobs, then shopping local is a vital ingredient to keen for a healthy balance sheet.

Kanturk has proven itself to be a town where there is literally everything within a five minute walk – with everything from pharmacist, doctors clinics, restaurants, good quality pubs, to traditional eateries to that special local gift for someone overseas, a shopper will not leave the town empty handed – and that is always a good sign of any town.
