New systems in place to deal with increased business at Kanturk Co Op Mart

-

OVER the last number of years, the mart has undergone a major overhaul to cope with the increased number of customers and cattle coming into the mart on a weekly basis.

To continue to grow with technology, Kanturk Mart has installed a new input system which makes the intake of cattle arriving at the mart more efficient. They have also installed a new advertising screen which has proved to be very beneficial to people who want to promote their own businesses. A new catering facility, known as ‘Joan’s Kitchen’ also opened in the mart in September 2014 and is run by Joan and Liam Buckley of Buckley’s Café. In 2015 new catwalks were installed which allows customers to view the cattle for sale in a safe environment. While 2016 saw the installation of a new calf intake system. A calf collection service is also available for customers to avail of on Tuesday’s if required.

As Kanturk Mart continues to grow into the future, it would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff and management of Bank of Ireland Kanturk, main bankers to the mart throughout the years. They would also like to thank all of their customers, buyers and sellers, hauliers, sponsors, traders, show judges, staff and committee members; who give their times freely and everyone associated with the mart for their continuous loyalty and support.

We recently held our Annual Fat Stock Show and Sale with an entry of 130 top class animals. The day was a huge success with over 1200 people in the main ring for the sale of the show animals with buyers from both North and South of the country present. Our judges on the day were Thomas O Callaghan, Michael Fox and Shane Healy.

We would like to thank everyone that supported our Fat Stock Show and Sale, buyers, sellers and sponsors alike. On December 6th, we will have a Weanling Show and Sale while on our final sale for 2016 – December 20th we will hold a Christmas Show for all animals kindly sponsored by North Cork Creameries.

Our first sale in 2017 is January 10th while we will be holding a herd clearance sale of 170 cattle on January 14th starting at 12 noon.

Each year we support local charities. This year we are fundraising for Mallow Search and Rescue in conjunction with the Ronayne family Mallow. The Search and Rescue do Trojan work throughout the year. We have collection buckets available at the office, in Joan’s Kitchen and in Buckley’s Café. The mart is going to double the amount of money raised in these fundraising buckets and a presentation will be made at our last sale on December 20th.
