Almost three, 200 tickets were sold for the event with over 1500 attending on the night. Since April when the fundraising committee was formed major work was done behind the scenes to raise as much money as possible for Mallow Search and Rescue. The businesses in the Mallow Area were not found wanting either as they sponsored heavily in the form of adds on the race night program and races.

Chairman of the organising committee Colins Father John Joe Ronayne was extremely happy with how things went he said ‘it’s great to see such a great crowd here tonight, to raise over €50,000 is a great achievement, and I would like to thank one and all for their support. We hope to have the final amount raised in January and intend on giving the presentation to Mallow search and Rescue then’.

BRONZE FOR CHRISTINA:

Cork middleweight Christina Desmond picked up bronze at the medal ceremony for the European Elite Women’s Championships in Sofia last week after reaching the last 4 of her 75kg weight class.

The 20 year old southpaw was considered unlucky to lose a split decision semi- final call against Maily Nicar of France, with Irish head coach Zaur Antia claiming Christina destroyed her opponent.

Katie Taylor believes the future is bright for Christina. She said: ‘Christina is absolutely fantastic, she’s had a great year so far and she is so young. I think she is one that can do really well over the next few years. There are definitely girls out there who can go in and make an impact, and she is one of them.’ Well done from all in Clondrohid.
