It was celebration time in Kilbrin and the Gaels of Millstreet/Cullen
KILBRIN GAA Club held a very enjoyable medal presentation function in the local social club when medals were presented to the victorious Junior A Hurling Championship winners and to the Junior B Hurling League winners. Duhallow Board chairman Joe Kearns was on hand to present the medals. “Congratulations of your wins during the year,” Joe said. “Relax and go out and let it flow this season, ye are certainly good enough to win the county,” he added.
Joe also paid tribute to the parents of the players for their support, and to those who put all the fine Club facilities in place in Kilbrin.
Club chairman Donal Sheahan gave an outline of Kilbrin’s hurling year, from being taken to a replay by Freemount, to a storming finish against Newmarket in the semi-final, and to victory over Banteer in the final played in Castlemagner. He also spoke of the County campaign which started brightly with a win over the Carbery Champions and ended in disappointment with defeat to eventual winners Mayfield in the semi-final.
He complimented the JB hurlers on their successful campaign that began in early Summer and ended on the last Monday in October with victory over Newmarket.
With the medals presented, there were two individual awards on offer, Player Of The Year chosen by the players was won by Michael Lenihan. Michael had the distinction of being involved on both winning teams - he came off the bench in the JB Final to contribute handsomely to that victory.
Finally, a presentation was made to Margaret O’Callaghan in recognition of her tireless work on behalf of the club, especially her contribution to the successful running of the club lotto.
In 2016 Kilbrin GAA Club was also busy in terms of improving facilities. With the help of Sports Capital Grant Programme they now have a state of the art gymnasium. In addition, the Club also installed floodlights on the training area adjacent to the pitch.
