Sports clubs set to be the big winners at Cork Racecourse HUDSON TAYLOR LINED UP TO ROUND OFF RACE NIGHT

- BILL BROWNE

FOLLOWING the excitement of the packed Easter Racing Home Festival, the action will return to the Cork Racecourse on May 5 for the first of three Friday evening race meetings at the Mallow venue.

The ‘Cork Sports Club’s Go Racing’ meeting will feature a card of seven national hunt races with €100,000 prize money up for grabs.

Mary Kelly, sales and marketing manager at Cork Racecourse, said some of Ireland’s best known jockeys and trainers will be in action on the night.

“This will be the only national hunt meetings taking place across the entire country on the day, so we expect many of the big names from within the industry to be on the card,” said Mary.

As if this were not enough to whet the appetite, the evening will also feature additional entertainment, with a barbecue and a line-up of five live bands including popular Dublin folk duo Hudson Taylor, who will be topping the bill after the final race.

“This will be the first of a trio of Friday night meetings taking place at the racecourse over the coming months, with another big name music act set to play the Mallow Town Summer Race Evening on July 14,” Mary added.

As its theme might suggest, the event is also an opportunity for sports clubs from across Cork to cash in, with Cork Racecourse pledging to refund 50% of every admission ticket the respective clubs sell.

“We are delighted to be able to offer this fundraising initiative to the many sports clubs that form the backbone of our local communities. This will be a great way for clubs to raise much-needed funds, while enjoying all the fun and excitement of an evening at the races,” said Mary.

“We have seven exciting national hunt races on the card, the first of which will be going to post at 5.05pm and with Hudson Taylor rounding off the evening in style after the final race this promises to be a yet another great evening at the Cork Racecourse,” she added.

Any club interested in participating in the fundraising initiative can contact Mary Kelly directly on 022 50260 or via email at mkelly@corkracecourse.ie.
