Listen to the dawn chorus with a walk on the wild side
NATURE lovers are being invited to ‘ take a walk on the wild side’ on Sunday, May 14 with the return of the Dawn Chorus on the stately grounds of Mallow’s Longueville House.
Prior to the walk, which will commence at 4am, participants will be given a brief orientation and maps will be distributed in relation to various sites spread across the estate.
Visitors to the magnificent 500-acres estate will then be guided through the sights and sounds of one of nature’s great spectacles under the expert guidance of ornithologist Michael Cobley.
Michael, chair of the West Cork branch of Bird Watch Ireland, has many years of experience in guiding groups across Europe and loves nothing better than to share his passion for birdwatching with people of all experience levels.
Michael is an absolute mine of information and has an uncanny ability to identify birds by their call alone. He will be on hand to help with the birds, their calls and songs and also information on their habits and habitats.
Following the walk, participants can relax over a hearty country house breakfast. Afterwards Michael will host a question and answer session in the luxurious surroundings of the drawing room.
Those taking part in the walk are advised to wear warm outdoor clothing with hiking boots or wellies and to bring a pair a binoculars.
The cost is €49 per adult with a family ticket (two adults & two children under 13 years) available at €149. Advance booking is essential as numbers will be limited. For more information on the event and to book places visit www.longuevillehouse.ie.
