Busy Saturday for Macroom Juveniles

-

SATURDAY, April 22 must be a red letter day for MAcroom GAA. The U-6s and the U-8s played in blitzes in Ballyvourney and the U-9s, U-10s and U-11s all played matches in the Castle Grounds.

U-6S/U-8S: The U-6s had a super turn-out, really got stuck in and had a great time. The U-8s enjoyed a great morning of football and their management was very pleased.

U-9S/U-10S/U-11S: On a beautiful morning for football the U-9s opened proceedings in the C.G. and were very competitive against Bishopstown, winning four of six matches.

In the league, Macroom U-10’s played two well contested matches against a very good Inniscarra outfit.

Every ball was hard fought and both Macroom teams were well up to the task. Despite letting in a few late goals in each game, Macroom won out on score-lines of 5-10 to 4-4, and 4-7 to 5-2.

The management was very proud of the effort and determination shown by everyone. Each player played his part in what were great spectator events.

The U-11s played Bandon in two games but, unfortunately, were missing some strong players.

In the first game, they competed well but the concession of a number of goals in the first period meant that we were playing catch up for the remainder of the game.

The second game was very exciting and Macroom led for long periods; however a physically stronger visiting side managed a couple of late goals to take victory.

The Macroom mentors were very happy with the great effort and all panel members received valuable game time.

Panel: Aidan Lynch, Ben O Riordan, Cormac Burke, David Burke, Oisin O’ Sullivan, Alex Geasley, Rory Kiernan, Colin Kelleher, Mihaol Oleski, Martin Fitzgerald, Ryan Sabas, James Slattery, Jamie Murphy, Danny McKirgan and Rory Cregan.

U-14S: Macroom hosted Ballyvourney in TCP on Thursday, April 20, for a challenge game. On a lovely night, Macroom dominated proceedings from the beginning and eventually found their range.

Luke Aherne opened the scoring with a brilliant goal. This was followed by 1-4 from the in-form Seán De Lacey and a point by Ronan Morey. Macroom led at halftime 2-5 to 0-1.

On the resumption, Macroom continued to be the better team and the final score was Macroom 3-6 to 0-4 for Ballyvourney. Goalkeeper Darragh Neville was very sound and the backs were composed and in control. Midfield ensured a very good supply to the forwards who notched the necessary scores.

Panel: Darragh Neville, Barry Galvin, Ben O’Connell, Dylan Wenger, Liam Holland, Brian Healy(1-0), Sam Kelleher, Jack Sexton, Mark Hunt, Gerry Kelleher, Kieran Doody, Martin Sosa, Luke Aherne(1-0), Seán De Lacey(1-4), Ronan Morey(0-1), Marcin Oleski, Michael Kelleher, Rian Coghlan, Ferenc Lazlo, Darren Sweeney, Ben O’Herlihy, Dylan Molyneux and Jensen Ward (0-1). U-16S: They beat Ballyvourney 2-10 to 1-6 in a challenge game on Tuesday 18th April.

SPRINT WORKSHOP: Olympian and Cork Hurling fitness coach David Matthews conducted an excellent session in the Castle Grounds last Friday and it should prove very beneficial. The club has thanked Stephen Moore for arranging the event.
