Hurling League wins for Ballyhooly and Kilshannig

For the second half Ballyhooly introduced Joe Dowling, Pa Leahy and Gearoid Nyhan. They also moved Seamus Roche up front with Ivan Hegarty taking over in goal.

From the start they did very well. Seamus Roche had two points with Emmet O’Riordan worked well for Joe Dowling who goaled. Milford also found the net in the 35th minute when Peter Kirwan goaled 1-8 to 1-4.

Ballyhooly had a succession of points and they drew level in the 53rd minute when Gearoid Nyhan and Seamus Roche pointed 1-9 each. In the closing minutes Gearoid Nyhan found the net after a long free by Tom Sheehan. Ballyhooly had four points to spare in the end. THIS Cavanagh’s Fermoy Div 3 HL game at Glantane on Easter Monday was keenly contested for 45 minutes. Two goals in the last quarter for Kilshannig by Phelim O’Connell and Conor Sexton proved decisive as the Glantane side had seven points to spare in the end.

Ballygibli­n opened with a first minute goal by Christophe­r Noonan. Cillian Dollion followed with a very good point. Kilshannig settled well and Colin Twomey pointed a sideline and some frees that had them deadlocked 1-1 to 0-4 after 12 minutes.

Good play by the excellent Denis Cloghan led to Phelim O’Connell gaining possession but his attempt at goal was well saved by Seamus Barrett. Cathal O’Sullivan (free) edged Ballygibli­n in front. Colin Twomey levelled for the second time at the end of the first quarter. They were also level 1-3 to 0-6, 1-4 to 0-7, and 1-5 to 0-8.

Ballygibli­n hit the front when Ger O’Keeffe pointed after good play by Aidan Donegan and Christophe­r Noonan. Further pressure by Ballygibli­n yielded points by Paul Kearney, Cathal O’Sullivan and Paul Seymour that opened up a four point lead 1-9 to 0-8. Phelim O’Connell had a goal for the Glantane side in the 29th minute that cut the lead at the break 1-9 to 1- 8.

On the resumption the sides were level again when Colin Twomey pointed a free. Cian Nagle edged Kilshannig in front. A foul on Christophe­r Noonan led to a pointed free by Dave Moher that levelled for the 7th and last time at 1-10 each. Kilshannig did well from here on. Denis Cloghan, David Cronin, Phelim O’Connell, Cian Nagle and Colin Twomey impressed. A foul on Phelim O’Connell led to a lead pointed free by Colin Twomey. Twomey added another from play.

Ballygibli­n got back within the minimum when Dave Moher pointed a free after a foul on Cillian Dollion. Kilshannig had a goal by Conor Sexton that put them 2-12 to 1-11 clear. Good play again by Denis Cloghan led to a fine Phelim O’Connell point under pressure. In the 47th minute O’Connell struck the net and edged his side 3-13 to 1-11 clear. Christophe­r Noonan and Cillian Dollion replied with a point each while Denis Cloghan closed out the scoring with an injury time point.
