Duhallow Choral Society captivates Leinster House with song
ONE of Cork’s best loved community music groups, the outstanding Duhallow Choral Society, was making sweet music this week in Leinster House.
The Society, which this year celebrates its 21st anniversary, was one of the star turns at gala concert held in the historic building to raise funds for the Capuchin Day Centre.
The Society was invited to perform in front of the audience of more than 100 TD’s, Senators and staff by Cork North West Deputy Michael Moynihan who said it was a “distinct please and honour” to be able to welcome them to Leinster House.
“As the local TD I have long known that the Duhallow Choral Society is one of the finest ensembles of singers in the country and I decided that it would fantastic for them to showcase their talents at the seat of our national parliament,” said a clearly proud Deputy Moynihan.
“The entire audience was enthralled by their performance, which left us all with a skip in our step and the end of the first day of summer,” he beamed.
Deputy Moynihan said the Duhallow region could consider itself “highly fortunate” to have such a vibrant musical society that has travelled the globe and performed for such luminaries as Hilary Clinton and President Higgins.
“The Society, ably led by Brigid Daly, has for more than two-decades showcased the best that Duhallow has to offer. I know that I speak for my Dáil and Seanad colleagues when I say that we were all blown away by their talent and passion,” he said.
“I would urge people to find out where and when they are next performing and make a special effort to go and see the. I promise it will be worth it.”
