Colum to call the tunes at country fest

- BILL BROWNE

BILLED as one of the ‘must see’ musical events of the summer, the North Cork Country Music Festival has secured yet another big name to add to its already impressive bill.

On Sunday, August 20 the Mallow GAA Complex will be transformed into a country music mecca with Nathan Carter, Jimmy Buckley, Lisa Mc Hugh, Declan Nerney and Louise Morrissey among those set to grace the festival stage.

While the latest name to be added to the line-up will not be singing on the day, C103’s breakfast show presenter DJ Colum McGrath has been unveiled as the person charged with the all-important task of making sure the day runs like clockwork.

A well known face and voice among music fans, Colum will be MC for the festival, a task he is looking forward too with no small measure of enthusiasm.

Having presented the breakfast show for more than a decade, introduced the likes of Elton John, Tom Jones and Bryan Adams onto the stage at Killarney’s Summerfest and as DJ for a plethora of prestigious events including the annual Cork Marketing Ball, Colum is no stranger to the limelight.

“I am absolutely thrilled to have been asked to MC for the festival. I’m really looking forward to being the voice between the top acts appearing at the event,” said Colum.

“As well as being an incredible event for the whole area, it will also be an opportunity for me to show off my new Stetson and cowboy boots,” he quipped.

Liz Foley, chair of the Mallow GAA Complex said Colum was the ideal choice for the role.

Tickets for the festival priced at €25, are available from the Mallow GAA Sports Complex local outlets, a list of which is available on the festivals dedicated Facebook page.

Tickets can also be purchased online at www.eventbrite.com.
