Plaudits for ‘huge amount of work’ of community council

-

THE Mitchelstown Community Council AGM took place in Forrest Hall on Tuesday night, where Chairman Sean Finn presided.

He welcomed the large gathering and thanked all those who supported the activities of the community council over the past 12 months, especially his fellow officers and all the members as without their support and hard work such progress would not have been made.

Hon Secretary Theresa Horgan presented a detailed report of the years activities. Miss Horgan congratulated Sean Finn on receiving the mayor’s Community Award and said that the opening of Forrest Hall was an historic and very proud day for the Mitchelstown Community Council.

The financial report by Ger Brennan showed the council’s funds to be well handled and maintained.

Councillor Frank O’Flynn, chairman of the Cork Community Council 1916 commemoration committee, presented the Chairman Sean Finn with a framed scroll certificate honouring Mitchelstown Community Council’s participation in the 1916 commemoration.

Guest speaker Denis Kelly, Cork County Council Muintir na Tire Development Officer, said the reason community councils are set up is to make an area a better place in which to live and that Mitchelstown is achieving that. People that come together, he stated, have a vision and a plan. It takes a lot of work and focus can change.

The community building at Forrest Hall took a huge amount of work and the focus of the council will now change going forward, he stated.
