Mallow aiming to clean up in litter competition

-

THE month of May heralds the beginning of competition season and Mallow Tidy Towns are gearing up for a busy few months ahead.

The Cork County Council Anti Litter Challenge begins next week with three adjudication periods, each including a designated area along with Main St. The first of these is from Monday, May 8 to Wednesday, May 17 at Bearforest Lower, followed by Sean Moylan Park from May 22 to May 31 and concluding with Willow Bank from June 6 to June 14.

The adjudicator can call at anytime of day during these dates and the MTT team advise the local residents to please keep their patch up to scratch. One item of litter equals one point, as does ten cigarette butts, so demerit points add up very quickly.

MTT will be tackling Main St, its side streets and laneways as these will also be areas for inspection. The group need everyone to be vigilant, take your litter home and dispose of it correctly.

Particular blackspots are pavements outside public houses where cigarette butts accumulate at an alarming rate and MTT ask publicans to provide bins for their customers and to tidy up any stray items from in front of their premises.

The National Tidy Towns Competition adjudication begins on Monday June 12 and MTT will be submitting their entry form before the end of the month.

The town has been successful in gaining points each and every year involved and have high hopes again this year.

MTT will be carrying out litter picks every Tuesday evening starting from HQ in Hibernian Way and ask you to join and help make a difference. Please check MTT Facebook page for updates on projects and meeting points.
