THE Blackwater Valley Darts singles competition was held last Friday night in Maureen’s Bar.

All seven teams in the league were represented on the night and all the players had only one thing on their mind, and that was to lift the singles Cup.

After dividing the players into four groups Dave O’Brien and Peter O’Donovan qualified from group A. Pat Leahy and Brendan Broderick went through from group B as did Steve Connolly and John Holland in group C while group D had Nicky Sherman and John Leonard.

In the first quarter-final, Peter O’Donovan was hitting good scores, including two 180s, to beat Pat Leahy 3-0.

Brendan Broderick gave Dave O’Brien the white wash 3-0 in their game and John Holland took out John Leonard 3-1 in the third quarter final. In the last quarter final Nicky Sherman lost to the in form Steve Connolly 3-1.

In the first semi-final Broderick beat O’Donovan 4-2 in a very close game and Connolly was too strong for Holland in the second semi-final with a 4-1 win.

The final was between Broderick, representing Maureen’s, and Connolly from Molly’s Bar in Bweeng. Connolly took off to a blistering start winning the first three games. Then Broderick won the next two games but Connolly was not going to lose this one and in the last game he was first to hit the double for a great back to back singles win.

Next year Connolly will be going for a hat trick of singles titles.

Blackwater Valley Darts would like to thank all the players who played on the night and special thanks to Maureen’s Bar and there staff for a great night.
