Jimmy creates high drama in Tullylease
MEMBERS of Tullylease Drama Group, which celebrated its landmark 21st anniversary last year, have been once again put through their paces for their latest acclaimed production. They recently entertained appreciateive audiences with their production of PG O’Dea’s hilarious three-act comedy ‘Poor Jimmy’. .
Since their inaugural play ‘Anyone Can Rob A Bank’ 22-years-ago, the drama group’s annual offering has been one of the main highlights of the local calendar, serving as a key fundraiser for the upkeep of the local Community Centre.
Other popular productions over the years have included ‘ The Whip Hand, ‘A Will and a Woman’, ‘ The Buds of Ballybunion’, ‘Matchmake Me Do’, ‘ Troubled Batchelors’, ‘Moll’, ‘Silver Wedding’, ‘Fledged and Flown’, ‘Planning Office’, ‘Cobweb’s Glory’, ‘Fortunes and Misfortunes’, ‘Don’t Tell the Wife’, ‘Cupid Wore Skirts’, ‘Big Maggie’, ‘ The Real McCoy’ and ‘Sive’.
True to form, their production of ‘Poor Jimmy’ maintained the high standards set by the group over the years packing out the community centre for its four night run at the tail end of last month.
The hugely entertaining production focussed on farmers Nellie and Dennis Gillan who are trying to marry off their only son Jimmy.
As he is not making any progress whatsoever in the matrimony stakes, Nellie takes matters into her own hands when she arranges a match between Jimmy and young widow woman Julia Harrigan, who is a wealthy farmer.
Needless to say, the path to true love does not run smoothly and all hell breaks loose with predictably hilarious results.
Cast members Sheila O’ Keeffe, Patrick Larkin, Joe Collins, Sean Biggane, Joan Moriarty, and Aisling Stokes put in fine performances bringing the house down each night.
Now the group is looking to the future and planning their next big production.
