-

BOTH youth and senior members of O’Leary Stone Kanturk Cycling Club headed to Newcastle West last Sunday.

On a fine Sunday morning the youth started out with the U12’s. In this one lap race we saw Sean Tarrant and Ewen McConville coming in to finish with an extensive lead over the rest of the field. In a close finish Sean took a great win with Ewen coming 2nd, Stephen Sheahan 7th and Michael Nolan improving with every race and finishing well in the bunch.

In the U14 2 lap race, David Shine finished a strong 3rd with Luke Moynihan and Patrick Morley finishing in the bunch behind.

O’Leary Stone Kanturk club had a strong team in the U16 4 lap race. Tom Moriarty broke from the bunch and was on his own for the first two laps with Denis Murphy and Luke Thompson leading the bunch. On the final lap Luke Thompson bridged across and took a great win with Tom Moriarty 2nd, Denis Murphy 3rd, Sean Barrett 4th, Daniel Yonhin 5th.

Tadgh Walsh, Arnaud Dumoulin and Lucy O’Donnell finished well in the bunch.

In the senior section, Evan O’Donnell and Steven Gilman competed in the Junior/A3 race. Evan rode a very strong attacking race, going solo for 2 laps and finished well in the bunch. Steven was pipped at the post finishing 2nd.

In the A4 race Billy Allen finished in 8th position so he is moving up in the A4 ranking fast.

Elsewhere at the weekend, Cian Leahy competed in the Dunsany GP in Co. Meath. He had one of his best races and finished 5th in the A4 race.

Meanwhile, Eddie Dunbar, following his great win in Flanders, is now training for the four-day Ronde de L’Isard, May 18th-21st, before he tackles the Baby Giro. It starts on June 9th and finishes on the 15th.
