Mixed results for boxers at all-Irelands
The opening weekend of the girls all-Ireland boxing championships proved to be a weekend of mixed fortunes in Dublin as Kanturk BC sisters fought in semi-finals in their respective categories.
Katie - the youngest club member - was first in out of the two and proved too strong for her Antrim opponent, coming away with a first round stoppage following two standing counts.
The win takes her to the All-Ireland Boxing Final this Friday in the home of Irish boxing, the National Stadium.
Unfortunately, luck wasn’t completely on the side of the North Cork based boxing club as Leah, despite having boxed a winning performance, according to coaches Jim McConville and Dennis O’Keeffe, came out on the wrong side of the decision on Saturday morning last.
A massive well done to both girls for their great achievements to date - county and Munster champions 2017 isn’t much to be sneered at!
This weekend the focus turns to the Girl 1, 31kg all-Ireland final and the Girl 4, 57kg semifinal, where both Katie and Rachel Tarrant will compete, respectively.
Kanturk BC will be out in full force over the course of the weekend where Katie will contest the Girl 1, 31kg final in a bid to claim her first national title, and Rachel will be in between the ropes on Saturday morning in high hopes to secure her place in the all-Ireland championships at the Girl 4, 57kg final the following week.
The very best of luck to both girls.
