Meelin clash with in form Éire Óg in County IHC opener
MEELIN face up to Éire Óg in Round 1 to the County Intermediate Hurling Championship in Banteer on Friday evening. Its been a few eventful seasons for Meelin in the grade, conceding a last gasp goal that ended their 2015 campaign to Fr. O’Neills.
A good start last season, Meelin bettering Ballincollig, Grenagh and Blacrock before faltering to Aghada.
Ronan Dwane is again at the helm, spearheading Meelin on the field are the return from injury of Eamon Brosnan and Brendan O’Sullivan is a huge boost, joined by Liam and Kevin Collins and T J Brosnan though D J O’Sullivan is ruled out owing to suspension.
League form in Division 2 is indifferent, Meelin losses to Tracton, Kildorrery and Kanturk overturned on a narrow win over Valley Rovers last time out.
From four starts in League Division 2, Éire Óg are faring much better, three wins from four starts recorded over Aghada, Kanturk and Kildorrery, a loss incurred to Watergrasshill first out.
Éire Óg received a tonic boost on a preliminary round win over Kildorrery, overturning back to back defeats by the same opposition in the previous two campaigns. Key to the Ovens side triumph was a hat trick of goals netted by Daniel Goulding.
It makes for an interesting tussle, current form may point to Éire Óg yet Meelin can always raise their game for the big occasion.
