Ballyhooly finish strong in JAFC to overcome Glanworth

Cathal O’Keeffe was outstandin­g at centre back with Fintan Linehan very impressive up front. Points by James Roche, Cathal O’Keeffe (free) and Fintan Linehan opened up a lead 0-6 to 0-2 after 20 minutes.

Further Ballyhooly pressure yielded points by Seamus Roche and Cathal O’Keeffe. They had their first goal in the 27th minute when James Roche and Gerry O’Connor combined well for Fintan Linehan who netted. In injury time Joe Dowling with another point gave his side an interval lead 1-9 to 0-2.

Glanworth improved a lot on the changeover. They introduced Christophe­r Quirke and Jack Coughlan who made a real difference.

Jack Coughlan had an early point. However Glanworth lost key defender Denis Gallagher to a black card.

Good play by Joe Dowling led to a Fintan Linehan point. Glanworth forced a penalty when Ian Murphy was fouled. Michael Cashman made no mistake.

Now on a roll Glanworth added a point by Ian Murphy after good play by Eric Hanrahan. They had another point by Jerome Fitzgibbon that cut the lead to five points 1-10 to 1-5.

Adrian O’Driscoll made two very good saves for Ballyhooly as Glanworth piled on the pressure. Gerry O’Connor and Padraigh Hannon swapped a point.

Adrian O’Driscoll again saved well from Christophe­r Quirke. Quirke followed with a point in the 47th minute 1-11 to 1-7. Ballyhooly had two quick goals. The first came from a penalty by Fintan Linehan with Gerry O’Connor adding a goal in the 53rd minute 3-11 to 1-7.

There was no way back for Glanworth as Cathal O’Keeffe and Cian O’Mahony added a point each. Glanworth had a late point by Michael Cashman.
