Muskerry JFC first round to be completed this week

-

THE next couple of evenings in Muskerry will hopefully see all junior championship first round winners identified, but before making any comments on forthcoming action it is fitting to commend efforts of the Muskerry hurling team who made a gallant effort to secure a first round championship victory on Sunday last.

The team management found it hard to prepare the team for this first round engagement with Bandon and they also found themselves without the services of some leading hurlers in the division for variety of reasons. They utilised those at their disposal as well as possible however and even though they found it hard to get into their stride an outstanding second half display almost carried the day. Bandon were two points ahead at the finish but Muskerry’s performance was satisfying and they will face their second chance outing which will be against fellow divisional side Carrigdhoun with a good degree of confidence.

Back to the big ball code, and this evening (Thursday) at Annahala the junior football championship encounter between title holders Kilmurry and Beal Athan Ghaorthaidh should produce a good hours of football.

The Gaeltacht side came very close to upsetting the form book when Kilmurry had to come from behind to draw level but it is likely at second time of asking they will have the edge.

On Friday at Carrigadrohid Blarney and Donoughmore will be in action and the latter could have the edge as they are a club who generally put more into football preparation than their opponents. All the first round games to date in the junior football championship have produced excellent fare and we look forward to similar situations in these two remaining contests.
