Boherbue savour joy of long-awaited title
BOHERBUE GAA ENDS 29-YEAR WAIT FOR SILVERWARE AS THE GREEN AND GOLD HEROES CELEBRATE REPLAY WIN IN STYLE
THE unbridled scenes of elation at the full time whistle to the Duhallow Junior Football Final showed how much it meant to a club like Boherbue to savour outright.
Similiar to Galway in hurling, both had endured their share of disappointments, both ending 29 year barren runs to sample sporting success. Indeed jubilated Boherbue folk rushed onto the Kanturk field of play in green and gold colours to salute their heroes following a thrilling single point victory over reigning holders Knocknagree.
It took a replay to determine the outcome, the tussle catching the imagination with a huge throng descending on the Kanturk venue on two occasions to create an electric atmosphere.
Ultimately outright honours belonged to Boherbue, thanks to a last ditch Jerry O’Connor point that swayed a titanic battle for supremacy to collect the accolades for only the fourth occasion.
A massive crowd greeted the triumphant team on a return to Boherbue village where supporters were addressed by club chairman Aidan Buckley; selector John Murphy and captain Daniel Buckley.
