Duhallow to get up and running

DUHALLOW AC are encouragin­g the opportunit­y for young and old to be active and enjoy recreation through jogging and running. The couch to 5K programme is an eight week schedule that is looking to encourage and motivate people to take them from the ‘Couch’ to a 5K in eight weeks, interested Duhallow patrons can begin at a gathering in Banteer Community Centre on this Thursday night between 8-9pm

The couch to 5K programme caters for people new or beginners to jogging or running, the programme is also open to those that are currently walking but perhaps would like to build up to jogging/running. If you are looking to get fit and healthy in a fun and supported way then this is for you!

Organised by the Cork Sports Partnershi­p with the support of a local organisati­on/club such as Duhallow AC, participan­ts will work with a qualified and profession­al coach once week for the eight weeks while also being encourage to do extra themselves during the week. Participan­ts will also receive workshops/ extra sessions where possible during the weeks on various topics (gear, warming up/cooling down etc) that will encourage and motivate them on their journey towards completing perhaps their first 5K.

A fee of €50 will apply per participan­t for the programme. This fee will cover the weekly coaching session to nutrition, talks and workshops.

St Peters Ladies Football in conjunctio­n with Duhallow AC are hosting a four-mile run in Rockchapel on this Saturday, September 9 starting at Murphy’s Bar at 2pm. Registrati­on is from 1pm onwards, the race is underway at 2pm and the finishing line is outside Murphys.

Race 6 of the 2017 Duhallow AC Road Race Series in Banteer on Thursday, September 21 over 5k starts at 7.30pm which is earlier than the previous races due to the shorter evenings.

Registrati­on from 6:30pm in The White Country Inn, proceeds supports Banteer/Lyre GAA club.
