Young stars take Centre Stage one more time at the CAT Club
A MUSICAL called ‘For Forever’ developed by a group of talented young actors and singers from Mallow, after a captivating debut in February, is returning to Cork Arts Theatre due to popular demand.
The performers (ranging in age from 15 to 18 years) are from the Senior Musical Theatre class in Centre Stage School, Mallow and from September to December 2017, with the help of facilitator Katie Holly, director Aideen McAuliffe and choreographer David O’Connor, they created a story line based on the music of Broadway sensation and Tony winning musical ‘Dear Evan Hansen’.
The students invented a plot with characters their own age facing issues that many Irish young adults deal with on a daily basis; isolation, bullying and grief.
Despite the serious subject matter, audiences and mentors alike agreed that the students’ collaberation culminated in a funny, warm production and there is as much comedy in the production as there is pathos.
One audience member commented that ‘ This hugely relevant message is a must for all young people - This show strikes a chord with the trials and tribulations of growing up in our modern society. Its humour and true-to-life characters bring the audience through a very realistic and poignant journey’. Others described it as ‘a wonderful production’ and that the issues were ‘dealt with in such a sensitive/humourous and true-to-life way’.
The live band is made up of Cork musicians Christine Cusack, Louise Luddy and Luke Tai, ably led by Musical Director Nicole McDonagh.
An audience reaction that included tears, laughter and standing ovations has prompted Centre Stage School to revive the production for two performances only on Sunday 18th March at Cork Arts Theatre.
