Stargazing at the Everyman
CORK LEGENDS BACK FOR ST PATRICK’S WEEKEND GIG
FOLLOWING their sold out St Patrick’s weekend show at the venue last year, The Stargazers will headline a concert at the Everyman Palace Theatre on Sunday, March 18.
One of Cork’s most venerable musical institutions, The Stargazers have performed their first gig as a group on RTÉ back in 1983.
While the group many have undergone some personnel changes over the years, the current lune-up Chris Ahern, Ursula O’Sullivan and Johnny ‘Fang’ Murphy have kept the groups tradition of keeping their harmonies as tight as ever.
Their recording and live show celebrate the song-writing genius of greats including Cole Porter, Hoagy Carmichael, Irving Berlin and George Gerschwin. In turn, their instrumental style is heavily inspired by Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli among others.
Throw some modern greats by the likes of Randy Newman into the mix and add some of The Stargazers own material and you get a pretty good idea of what they are about.
The band continues to celebrate the song-writing genius of such greats as Cole Porter, Hoagy Carmichael, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin and the instrumental style of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli. Throw in songs by modern greats such as Randy Newman as well as some originals for good measure and you get the gist of what Stargazers are about.
The concert will see The Stargazers play a heady mixture of classics, popular contemporary covers and their own material including tracks from their most recent album ‘My Echo, My Shadow and Me’.
Special guests on the evening will be the Irish traditional masters Four Star Trio with their subtle integration of fiddle, accordion and guitar and the supremely talented Cork singer Gemma Sugrue, who last year performed with Jenny Greene and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.
Tickets for the St Patrick’s musical extravaganza from the Everyman Palace box office on 021 450 1673 priced at €26.
