Camping in up in Boherbue
GIRL Guides from the Boherbue branch were as busy as bees recently when they hosted their annual Old Time Tea Rooms fundraiser in the local parish hall.
It was a morning of fabulous cakes, tea, coffee and conversation for all the family and a much needed fundraiser for the Girl Guides.
This year marked the launch of a drive to raise €8,000 to send girls aged 13 and over to the international Girl Guide Chalet in Switzerland next April where they will meet other international Girl Guides and spend the week participating in a range of leadership and team building activities.
Throughout the calendar year the Ladybirds, Brownies and Guides participated in a number of regional fun days, attended the pantomime in Cork, participated in the international camp at Rockwell with 2,000 guides from around the world, entertained the residents at the Araglen House Nursing Home; hosted the SW Regional Cook Out; aided the Tidy Towns Committee with a litter pick up and, most recently, sent a delegation to attend the Brave and the Bold Literary Festival at the RDS, at which Holly Saunders very capably addressed the audience from the podium.
The Guides may have kept some locals awake last weekend as they held their first training camp of 2018 in the Boherbue Educare field! And they thank Abina for her warm welcome in the process..
The Guides are off to Mount Melleray for the South West Regional Camp in July where they will camp with 200 other Guides from around the region.
