Voices raised in song for Our Lady’s
THE fundraising concert in aid of Our Lady’s Hospital For Sick Children in Crumlin, Dublin, was held in the Hibernian Hotel last Saturday night.
The show, which commenced at 8pm, was hosted by Liam Walsh of Tipp FM.
The HFC Brass Band from New Ross, County Wexford, opened the show with the Tony Christe hit ‘Is This The Way To Amarillo?’ and was followed by many more well-known songs and themes.
The City Of Cork Male Voice Choir was also billed, and it entertained with such classics as ‘An American Trilogy’. This choir was founded in 1968 and currently has 35 members.
Paddy Murray, one of the founding members of the choir, celebrated his 80th birthday recently. They have travelled throughout Europe and the US and performed with the RTÉ Symphony Orchestra in ‘A Nations Voice’, in celebration of the 1916 Rising.
The Cork Prison Officers Choir was also a big hit on the night under conductor Jackie O’Connell and her accompanist and daughter, Emma O’Connell. Quartertown native Billy Cremin was also part of the performance.
Solo singer Elle Marie O’Dwyer, supported by guitarist Tracey Mullane, sang many Irish classics to huge appreciation from the audience.
After the interval all acts performed again in this two-and-a-half-hour event, which proved to be an excellent evening of entertainment.
