Fifth Green Flag for St Anne’s NS

-

LAST Friday was a red-letter day for St. Anne’s Primary School, Charleville - their fifth Green Flag - which was raised by Aine McMahon and Irene Daly of Charleville Tidy Towns Committee watched by the pupils, staff and parents.

The school was also awarded a Healthy Eating Promotion flag, which was flying proudly in the light breeze.

School principal Maura Mulcahy, addressing the attendance, said it was a great day for the school to have achieved their fifth Green flag, this one for bio-diversity. She thanked the pupils and staff, particularly the green flag class co-ordinator, Claire Collins, for their input as well as the parents who supported and encouraged the pupils of the schools’ six classes in the achieving the flags.

The Green Flags previously awarded to St. Anne’s were those for Litter and Waste, Water, Energy, Travel and Transport and biodiversity where the children learned to appreciate all aspects connected to nature.

The pupils performed dance routines and sang songs for the audience of parents and staff members in a very pleasant summer atmosphere, which was appreciated by all.

Earlier, there was a large attendance at a cake sale organised by the Parents Association of cakes and confectionery prepared by the pupils themselves in a fundraiser for the school.
