The best quality animals in Ireland on show
WHILE there’s literally something for everyone at Charleville Show, the animal classes are second to none and draw entries from right throughout Ireland.
In fact, in the various animal judging sections and the equine sports competition is fierce, with prize money to match.
DAIRY SECTION
THE judging of the Dairy Section will take place on Saturday June 23 with a total of 20 different classes which includes IHFA-YMA Showmanship League 2018.
The highlight of the day will be the judging of the All Ireland Junior Cow confined to second calvers with a price fund of €2,000 sponsored by Kerry Agri.
The total price money in the dairy section is in the region of €11,000, and, as usual, the standard of exhibits in each class is expected to be the best in the country.
BEEF SECTION
On Saturday the Show will host beef classes in the Cattle section of the show. In the Angus breed classes there is a prestigious qualifier for Iverk Show for a Bull Calf, and this is sponsored jointly by AIB and Aldi with €19,800 in the prize fund.
The highlight of the beef section will be the Supreme Champion & Reserve Champion of the Show for both Senior and Calf Classes
SHEEP SECTION
The sheep classes will be judged on Sunday starting at 12 noon, with Suffolk, Texel, Vendeen, Charollais and commercial cross bred sheep.
The Vendeen and Texel breeds will be awarding points to each sheep placed, which contributes to the awarding of the ‘Show Flock of the Year’ in both breeds. The South West Texel breeders are holding their region’s showing championships, thus a good attendance of sheep guaranteed.
HORSES & PONIES
Four rings will be buzzing with activity on Saturday with Show Ponies, Show Hunter Ponies, Working Hunter Ponies and Mares/Young Stock being put through their paces, with some well known faces from the racing world changing their hat for the weekend to try to sort out the ponies on display. Championships will be held in each of the arenas with a variety of cups and prizes on offer.
On Sunday, we will have five rings working all day, the Young Horses and Mares and Foals will start at 11am. The mare and foal ring will finish with The Horse Sport Ireland Broodmare Championship with a prizefund of €1,000.
And the RDS Breeders Championship 2018 Qualifier will cap the lot when the top three mare and foal combinations will go on to the Dublin Horse Show in August.
Meanwhile, the Ridden Hunter Ring will start at 11.30am and will finish in the evening with the Champion Hunter receiving the Paddy Ball Cup. This year the Champion and Reserve, together with the highest placed 4yr old will go on to represent Charleville at the Champion of Champions to be held at Tattersalls Horse Show in July.
