No dearth of attractions at Summer Festival 2018

-

NEWMARKET Summer Festival is just around the corner with 10 jam-packed days of fun from Friday, June 29, to Sunday, July 8, inclusive.

Over the weekend enjoy entertainment and crafts at the Teddy Bear’s Picnic at the IRD Arena featuring a Magical Fairy Trail, Bug and Bee Hunts with Gortbrack Organic Farm; and magician extraordinaire Tony Baloney.

This is followed by ‘An Enchanted Evening’ at the IRD courtyard where you can sit back, relax and enjoy live music from the Delta String Trio. You could also join UCC grounds-keeper Jack Murphy and folklorist Raymond O’Sullivan for a river walk in the Island Wood, or the Toy Tractor Run at the tennis court.

Events throughout the week include an evening of traditional music, song and dance at the CYMS; candle and soap-making classes (for those between six and 18) in Castle Court; and the festival table quiz at the Hi Street Bar, in aid of The Thursday Club.

The annual pub crawl has an ‘agricultural’ theme this year with participants asked to “bling their wellies”. There will also be afternoon tea in Relish Café; pitch and putt three-ball scramble and a “Junk Sculptour” running throughout the week.

This year you also have a chance to show off your skills with a baking competition and bake sale for all ages who like to get out the rolling pin – with great prizes in adult and kid categories in cakes, biscuits and breads. There is more information on the Facebook page.

As always there will be a host of live music and entertainment in the local bars and nightclub, and Turbett’s Spin City funfair will be open from 7.30pm nightly. Places in the annual car treasure hunt and town walkabout quiz will also be on sale from the post office. The 10 days of festivities conclude with a fireworks display at the town park on Sunday night.
