Freemount Macra made a cheque presentati­on recently to Temple Streets Children Hospital and Marymount Hospice. Each charity received €2750 which was raised during The Freemount Tractor Run which was held Sunday 8th April. We would like to thank all those involved.

Freemount Macra were announced winners of Avondhu Club of the Year at the Avondhu Awards night on Monday 11th June.Well done to club members Ann Fitzgerald, Thomas Stritch, Sinead Guiney and Brid Ann O’ Donoghue who represente­d the club in interviews.

Our AGM was held Thursday 31st May in Freemount Hall. Thanks to all those who attended. Would like to thank our outgoing officers for all their hard work and wish our new officers the best for year ahead.On the night our Chairperso­n Eileen Murphy makes a presentati­on to Mary Ann Murphy for all her commitment and dedication as her role of National Council Representa­tive.

LAITAIRIAN

The village of Cullen, renowned for its history and folklore, will be a hive of activity on this Sunday, June 24, when they gather to celebrate their Patron Saint, St Laitiarian and the annual Féis. Now over a century old, this event has withstood the test of time and continues to attract big attendance from afar and near. It is also a day where people visit the cemeteries and well, a tradition handed down that will never be lost.

The Féis itself commences at midday with ceol amhranaoíc­ht, teangan, rince seite etc. The sports which have become a huge addition to the day commence at 3 p.m. followed by the entertainm­ent which gets under way at 3.45 p.m. and features a host of all-Ireland winners in music, dancing and singing. It is a true family day out where people gather at ease, chat, visit the stalls and meet old friends in a pleasant surroundin­g where the atmosphere is one of fun and enjoyment. POPE’S MASS

Pope Francis will visit Ireland on August 25 and 26. Tickets for the Mass in the Phoenix Park will be available online from Monday, June 25, at worldmeeti­ng2018. ie. These tickets are available to both parishes and individual­s and are free of charge. The annual church gate collection in aid of Millstreet Hospital Fund takes place before 11 a.m. Mass in Kiskeam on this Sunday 24.
