Laochra Óg latest: Four point lead over Courcey Rovers in tight U-16 quarter final

-

MONDAY 28th June - U15 hurling county quarter final result: Laochra Óg 6-11 Courcey Rovers 6-6.

The journey continues for our U15 boys in this county championship after an epic battle in Ballyvourney this evening. This was the biggest test our boys have faced in their hurling careers and they stood up to the challenge right from the start.

We got off to a great start and led 1-2 to no score before Courcey opened their account. The exchanges were tight and tough with Laochra Og holding the advantage at half time. 1-6 to 1-4. The game opened up in the second half as Courcey put on the pressure and goals followed but our boys responded every time, the lead changed hands several times but it was Laochra Og who finished the stronger.

Thanks to Courcey for a great sporting game, Colaiste Gobnatan for the facilities and to all the support we had , it was fantastic for team and management.

We take on Lisgoold next Tuesday evening in the semi final, venue to be decided. Thanks as always to our sponsor M & J Kelleher.

Tuesday 29th June - U14 hurling league result: Laochra Óg 3-9 Kilbree 1-6.

Our U14 boys finished out their league campaign with six wins from six in Rossmore this evening and although battle weary from the u15 county championship win from the previous night they still dug in and produced some fine hurling. Thanks to Kilbree , Peter and the Cart bus and our sponsor M & J Kelleher.

Our U11 girls played Ballinora tonight in u11 league. In very warm conditions they played great in Teerbeg. It was a very evenly contested game and we are very proud of how well the girls played. It finished up Ballinora 5 goals to Laochra Óg 3 goals 3 points. There are big improvements with every game for this great bunch of girls.

We saw some fantastic saves from our goalkeeper and great defending from our backs.

Our midfield girls were on the go from the start covering loads of ground and putting lots of ball forward. Our forwards were kept on their toes too with great defending from Ballinora.

Thanks to Stephanie and Sean and the girls from Ballinora for a great game, to our sponsors Macroom Tidy Towns and Micheal and Nora Mc Carthy for the use of Teerbeg. And a big thanks to the u11 Laochra Óg girls who did so well tonight.

Saturday 30th June - Laochra Óg Under 15 Camogie team travelled to Cloughduv this evening playing in the Muskerry league on a very warm sunny evening. Cloughduv were the stronger side throughout but our girls battled away hard right through to the end.

All our girls got at least a half game and are learning all the time as we go along in this ungraded competition. Thanks to Cloughduv for a sporting game and team sponsors Healys Spar.

Saturday 30th June - Laochra Og U8 & U9 boys played 3 games last Saturday against Ballinora, Aghabollogue and Cloughduv. We played 10 and 11 a side games with players jumping in from other teams to give everyone loads of playing time.

We lost our first two games to Ballinora and Aghabollogue but played a lot better in our third game with Cloughduv with great teamwork and passing on show and drew that game.

Well done lads. Thanks to Aghabollogue for being great hosts. Thanks to the parents for bringing kids to training and matches and to our sponsors Follain Jams and Michael and Nora McCarthy of Glenmill restaurant and D.O.E. centre for the use of Teerbeg.

Monday 2nd July - U15 county semi-final result: Laochra Óg 5-10 Lisgoold 7-16.

Our U15 boys came up against a very strong Lisgoold team in Ballyvourney this evening and found themselves on the back foot right from the throw in.

They showed their class in that first period and left us with a mountain to climb, trailing 5-11 to 1-5 at half time.

The game looked well and truly gone when Lisgoold goaled again after the resumption but it was then Laochra Óg showed their true spirit and the most unlikely of comebacks was nearly on.

The lads played their hearts out right to the end and only for time running out the margin would have been less.

All credit to Lisgoold they showed their “A” status and we wish them the best of luck in the final.

Well done to the boys and it was testament to their efforts as they were applauded off the field. Thanks also for the great support this evening and to our sponsor M & J Kelleher.
