Two key drivers of Mallow town ‘live’ right here
BRIDEWELL Lane, which backs on to Mallow Castle is home to two VIP residents of Mallow, Mallow Development Partnership and Mallow Chamber of Commerce.
VIP because they are both key drivers of development in the town - not just commercial, but infrastructural, social, cultural and educational also.
Mallow Development Partnership (MDP) works with business, community and statutory bodies and the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal Committee of Cork County Council to develop, communicate opportunities and implement plans for the economic, social and environmental development of Mallow town.
MDP daily activities include strategic business planning, pro-active sectoral development, feasibility assessment and management of projects, area branding, promotion, marketing and networking, communications and monitoring/evaluation of projects and activities.
MDP is a voluntary organisation, consisting of representatives from Mallow town and its hinterlands, from both community and business, Mallow Chamber of Commerce, Cork County Council, Avondhu Blackwater Partnership and many more.
A number of management and administrative committees exist to oversee the running of projects led by MDP, with meetings held on a regular basis. Meanwhile, the Mallow Chamber office on Bridewell Lane is the first port of call for any business that has an interest in Mallow Town. Mallow Chamber not only looks after the interests of local businesses, it also promotoes the town itself to attract visitors and footfall.
The Chamber is involved in an ever-growing range of events held in the town throughout the year, and this year took on the running of the now well-etablished ‘Racing Home For Easter Festival’.
The president of Mallow Chamber, Pat Hayes, has estimated the promotion run by retailers in conjunction with the recent Mallow Home and Garden Festival was worth “tens of thousands of euros” to the local economy. The Chambers ‘Blooming Marvellous’ initiative saw local businesses offer attractive discounts on goods and services of up to 50% to people visiting the town in addition to free coffees at many local outlets on production of a special voucher.
Mr Hayes said he had spoken to a number of retailers all of whom said the promotion had proven to be an unqualified success.
“There is no doubt but that the initiative helped to significantly increase footfall to the town and there was a very visible buzz around the place over the course of the entire weekend,” said Mr Hayes.
