Deserved win for Charleville Tidy Towns commitee
CHARLEVILLE Tidy Towns committee was among the winners of this year’s Ballyhoura Tidy Towns awards which were announced at the community hall in Newtownshandrum on last Wednesday night in the presence of the Mayor of County Cork Cllr Patrick Gerard Murphy.
Charleville took the award for Built Environment, Landscaping and Wildlife, while Newtownshandrum was another local winner for Litter Control, Waste and Tidiness in Housing areas. Kildorrery completed the North Cork winners when they took the award for Built Environment, Landscaping and Wildlife in their category.
On the Limerick side of the border, Glenroe Tidy Towns committee took the award for the Overall Development Approach, as did Kilfinane, while Ardpatrick took an award for Litter Control, Waste and Housing Areas. The awards were presented to the winners by Cllr Patrick Gerard Murphy, the Mayor of County Cork.
The members of Charleville Tidy Towns Committee have been doing Trojan work within the town environs over the past months and tremendous credit is due to them for the present excellent state of the town in terms of tidiness and litter control. Their task is made more difficult by the road works presently ongoing in the Limerick Road area, which is causing major disruption to business interests and road users.
When completed there the works are to move into the Main Street, which will cause further disruption, but all is necessary for the road repairs which are badly needed. Indeed, it is a reflection on the powers that be, the TII, who let the road, a National Primary Route deteriorate to the state they are in.
