THE north Cork Debs Season debuted on Tuesday when 40 young people from Scoil Mhuire, Kanturk, headed to Ballyroe Heights Hotel in Tralee to celebrate what is a key social event in the calendar of post-primary schools all over the country.
Families, relatives and friends of the students gathered at the square in Kanturk to check out the stunning styles and wish them well on their big day.
According to the girls, choosing the perfect dress is no easy task. You need something striking that ticks all the trend boxes but also stands the test of time. After all, it will be eternally visible on all social media platforms! Some of the dresses were purchased online while many of the girls travelled to Dublin, Cork, and Limerick to check out styles in the key shopping outlets.
Gowns at the Scoil Mhuire Debs gave a nod to the complete colour palette, with reds, scarlets, and blues seeming to be very popular.
Some opted for pastels such as lemon and pink, while one girl chose top to toe black, and another sparkled in silver.
All the girls wore full length dresses, many of which were embellished with lace and beading, while hair this year is trending towards long, curly luxurious locks.
For the lads, meanwhile, getting ready was a walk in the park. One young man described it as “a half-hour job”! Sophisticated blue, navy, grey and black suits were the order of the day, with matching shoes complementing the classically stylish outfits.
