Araglin bow out of Junior B Hurling at quarter-final stage

RANDAL Óg had seven points to spare over Araglin in the County JBHC (1) quarter-final at Donoughmor­e on Sunday.

The game was played in brilliant sunshine. A feature of the game was the outstandin­g display of 46 year old John Collins at wing forward for the Carbery side. Good play by Seamus Patterson led to an early point by Eoin O’Donovan.

Patrick Crowley and Eoin O’Donovan (free) followed with points. Araglin gradually came into the game. Good play by impressive Dave Browne led to an opening point by Shay Russell.

Araglin played Oisin Hickey as an extra defender and he did very well. The Avondhu side followed with points by Tom Kenneally (free) and Sean Motherway to be level 0-3 each after 15 minutes.

They hit the front with a James Kearney point followed by a Tom Kenneally pointed free. Randal Óg regrouped well. Eoin O’Donovan had two points with Shane Patterson putting Seamus Crowley through for a lead point.

Seamus Crowley added another point with Seadhna Crowley working well for Patrick Crowley who opened up a three point lead. Tom Kenneally followed with a pointed free for Araglin.

In the 27th minute Eoin O’Sullivan landed a long range point as the West Cork side moved 0-9 to 0- 6 clear. They had their goal a minute later when Eoin O’Donovan placed Donncha Crowley who goaled and put his side double scores clear 1-9 to 0-6.

In injury time Pat Crowley with two rapid points gave the winners an interval lead 1-11 to 0-6.

On the restart Tom Lyons and James Kearney worked well for Tom Kenneally who had an early goal. Shay Russell put Dave Browne in for a point. Randal Óg recovered with points by Seadhna Crowley and Eoin O’Donovan. Araglin followed with quick fire points by Tom Kenneally (free) and Dave Browne after good play by Oisin Hickey.

In the 38th minute Eoin O’Donovan with another free opened up a five point lead 1-14 to 1- 9. Araglin with good play by Tom Kenneally and Shay Russell had a good point by Dave Browne.

Tom Kenneally followed with a pointed free as the lead was down to 3 points 1-14 to 1- 11. Both defences were very solid. A period of nine minutes elapsed without a score.

In the 51st and 54th minutes Eoin O’Donovan pointed two frees as Randal Og edged five points clear. Kevin Dullea who came on pointed within seconds with Seadhna Crowley adding a point in the 58th minute 1-18 to 1-11.

Tom Kenneally pointed another free for Araglin. Substitute Conor O’Donovan landed a point for the winners with Eoin O’Donovan having his ninth point. In between Cain O’Mahony had an attempt at goal saved by Randal Óg keeper with the rebound going over.

Randal Óg will now meet O’Donovan Rossa in the semi-final.
